LAVENDER LACE BAND
Iowa's Female Band
“1984 was a very good year…”
One of the Heartland’s most unique talents is the fabulous Lavender Lace Band from Des Moines, Iowa. Known for their soaring harmonies and their fun attitude on stage, Lavender Lace has been entertaining
audiences throughout the Midwest for a full two decades.
First formed in 1984, the band has cultivated a loyal following
in their travels across the state. Prairie Meadows Racetrack &
Casino has featured the band for the past 12 years, and many will remember the gals from their Iowa State Fair gigs at the
old Master Jacks. One of the group’s biggest thrills was being named “Best
Band of RAGBRAI ‘91” (the Des
Moines Register), and then returning to headline the Miller Stage in Osceola during RAGBRAI ’92. More recently, the group was voted runner-up in City View’s 2002 best band poll.
The group’s instrumentation consists of lead and rhythm guitars, bass and drums, but it’s the distinct three-part
vocal harmony that has become a lasting trademark for this one-man, all-female band.
As a cover band, the group seemingly has few boundaries. Fleetwood Mac,
the Dixie Chicks, Bette Midler and the Beatles are favorites, yet some of the band’s most memorable tunes are obscure
gems by artists like Marshall Crenshaw and The J. Geils Band. Throw in a little
Motown and some kickin’ country, shake it all up, and you have a mix Lavender Lace likes to call ….”DANCEABLE POP-ROCK.”
A professional and well-organized unit, the group is self-contained
with a 3600 watt sound system and stage lights. They are six members strong including
a singing soundwoman who runs the mixing board from stage or sets up out front, depending on venue size. Lead vocalists Melanie Wright and Lorna Johnson also utilize
a wireless mic to get up-close and personal with the audience on several numbers.
Lavender Lace is a band for all occasions and eagerly looks forward
to each and every engagement. For more information on bookings please call Darlene
